A Symphony of Sips and Sounds: Your Curated Guide to February in Whatcom County

February Uncorked: 5

Exclusive Whatcom County Wine Deals and Cultural Events to Savor This Month

As the winter mist settles over the rolling hills of Lynden and the salt air drifts through the Bellingham Arts District, Whatcom County’s premium lifestyle scene is beginning to stir. While January was a time for quiet reflection, February arrives with a flourish of Bordeaux-style blends, the grand reopening of historic estates, and world-class performances.

As the Chief Curator for The Reserve, I have hand-selected the essential stops for your local itinerary. Whether you are seeking a quiet pour by a fireplace or the soaring crescendos of a symphony, here is how to decant the best of our region this month.

The First Pour: Mid-Week Indulgences and Grand Reopenings

The local wine scene is vibrant this season, offering both value and prestige. At Vartanyan Estate Winery, the celebration of their newest 2022 release is in full swing. Throughout January and into the early days of February, visitors can enjoy $5 glasses of their acclaimed Mélange—a Bordeaux-style blend that perfectly captures the terroir of our northern corner.

For those who have missed the pastoral charm of the Everson countryside, Samson Estates Winery officially ends its winter hiatus. Reopening this Sunday, February 1st, for the 2026 season, it remains the premier destination for refined tastings and early-season event bookings. Meanwhile, if you find yourself in downtown Bellingham, Welcome Road Winery is curing the winter chill with their "Thursday Glass Nights." From 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, savor $5 pours in the heart of the Arts District—an insider favorite for a sophisticated mid-week escape.

Cultural Crescendos: The Weekend Ledger

Whatcom County’s cultural calendar is exceptionally bright this February. The Mount Baker Theatre remains our crown jewel of entertainment, hosting the Bellingham Symphony Orchestra this Sunday, February 1st. Their "Smitten" performance is the quintessential way to kick off a month dedicated to romance and the arts.

Looking further ahead, the Bellingham Festival of Music brings a global perspective to our local stage. On February 21st, the world-renowned Junction Trio arrives for an electrifying performance at Western Washington University. Beyond the concert, the trio is offering free masterclasses, providing a rare "insider" opportunity for the community to engage with world-class virtuosos.

The Local Buzz: From Orchard to Glass

No winter tour of Whatcom County is complete without a stop in Lynden. Bellewood Farms & Distilling continues to elevate the "Farmstore" experience. This month, the focus is on their distillery’s newest creation: the Caramel Apple Brandy cocktail. Pair it with their legendary fresh-baked apple cider donuts for a quintessential Pacific Northwest pairing that balances rustic charm with premium craft.

Curator’s Pro-Tip: When visiting Welcome Road Winery on a Thursday, arrive early to snag the leather armchairs near the window. It’s the best seat in the house to watch the Bellingham Arts District come alive while you enjoy a glass of their bold Syrah.
